Brand new paved road as of fall 2010. No more gravel!

Coming from Anchorage

Heading south from Anchorage, turn left off the Sterling Highway onto Johnson Lake Road just past Tustumena Elementary School and straight across from the fire station. If you miss this turn you can also turn at the next left, Abram. After about 1/2 mile on Johnson Loop turn left onto Tustumena Lake Road, marked by a large yellow T. Drive past the entrance to Johnson Lake Campground and continue for 2 miles on Tustumena Lake Road up onto the ridge. Turn left at a steep uphill drive marked with a Tustumena Ridge sign. Drive straight ahead for the Bear Cabin or left to the Main Cabin or Moose Cabin.

Coming from Homer

As of March 2003 this route is not useable. Fall rains washed out the road and it has not been repaired. Use the Directions from Anchorage and turn in near Tustumena school.

If you are traveling north from Homer, turn right at Johnson Loop Road just across from North Cohoe Loop Road. Cross Crooked Creek at the culvert near the fish hatchery and travel up the hill to turn right on Tustumena Lake Road at the big Yellow T. Follow the instructions above to Tustumena Ridge Cabins.
